HKUST Start-up Showcase 2022

The Office of Knowledge Transfer (OKT) of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) hosted the HKUST Start-up Showcase 2022 on June 30, 2022.  Close to 30 HKUST start-ups (including TSSSU 2022/23 awardees and E-Fund portfolio companies) focusing on BioMedical Innovation, HealthTech, Smart City, and Sustainability, showcased their cutting-edge technologies, and innovative business ideas and solutions.

Apart from the pitching session, start-ups had the opportunity to further promote their technologies and products at their booth. By mingling with potential investors and business partners as well as other entrepreneurs, start-ups were able to exchange ideas with each other and get further inspiration for their future development.

The face-to-face event was well received by over 150 participants including 105 investors, corporates, and industrial partners across different industries attended in person. The showcase not only strengthened the connection between HKUST start-ups and the business & innovation community, but also enhanced the visibility of start-ups and helped them to tap into OKT's investor network, which also demonstrated HKUST’s effort in knowledge transfer and entrepreneurship development.

HKUST E-Fund was established to promote entrepreneurship that brings positive social and economic impact. It aims to bridge the funding gap for promising start-ups before securing external funding so that they can focus on growth and expansion. It also provides a supportive network of investors and experts for guidance and advice.

Launched in 2014, Technology Start-up Support Scheme for Universities (TSSSU) provides funding to six universities to support their teams in starting technology businesses and commercialising their research and development (R&D) results. Although no new business could guarantee success, the funding from TSSSU aims to provide better support for technology start-ups to translate new ideas into business opportunities. Each funded technology start-up may receive up to $1.5 million each year for no more than three years.
